Current Obsessions – July 2014

// // Current Obsessions - July 2014

I am sorry for skipping June…but here come all of my July favorites!

1. Just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean that there is nothing good on TV. Every year I get hooked on all of the awesome USA shows, like Suits, Graceland and Covert Affairs! If you’re in the mood for some well scripted drama, I highly recommend you check them out.

2. I am loving all of the awesome mugs by Ashley Brooke. My favorite is the Let’s Always Be Fancy Mug. It’s a bit on the expensive side ($23), but it’s pretty fancy ;-)

3. I LOVE LOVE this kinetic typography video for the opening of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air by Lucas Young. Totally worth checking out if you need a mini break from work!

4. It’s that time of year—yes, it’s wedding season! I dig these foil pressed invites from Minted.

5. I know this may come as a shock, seeing that I’ve been a blogger for over two years now, but I’ve just recently came across Bloglovin. There are so many amazing blogs out there, but who has the time to go to all of their websites every day? This is where the brilliance of Bloglovin comes in…all of your blogs in one place!

6. As some of you may know, I have a slight obsession with ampersands, so when I came across this awesome DIY Glitter Ampersand tutorial, I had to share! I will definitely be making mine very soon.

7. Work has been a bit crazy, so I haven’t had as much time to read, but I just finished the third and final book in the Selection series, The One. Out of the entire series, I feel like this was definitely the best book. If you like the YA genre, I definitely recommend!

8. Thank you iTunes Radio for helping discover yet another wonderful artist! I am loving Jacob Banks CD (on iTunes for $6.99), The Monologue. Favorite song is Dear Simone…love the vibe!

9. Although his CD came out in 2012, I am totally digging Lonely Are The Brave(on iTunes for $9.99) by Maverick Sabre. Currently on repeat, I Need.

What have been some of your favorite things this month? CD’s, books, blogs…anything you’re loving that you want to share? Comment away! I always love discovering what my wonderful readers are into! Happy Monday :-)

This is awesome!

Current Obsessions – May 2014

// Current Obsessions - May 2014

1. I have a confession to make. I am kind of obsessed with dresses. Maybe really obsessed with dresses. And I LOVE this Geo Cotton Eyelet Skirt Dress from the Loft. It has the most flattering fit, and the Loft usually has 40% off everything sales, so it’s the best time to pick one up!

2. Have any of you tried out iTunes Radio? When I get ready to go to work in the mornings, I tend to turn it on and expand my music taste by finding new artists I wouldn’t normally hear on the radio. One day I was listening to the Ron Pope station, and Sam Smith came on, and from the moment I heard just a few words of that song, I knew I was going to love his vibe! His CD comes out on June 17 in the US, and I cannot wait! So far, my favorite song is Not In That Way. Have you checked him out yet?

3. With the big 3-0 quickly approaching, I am on a journey to get into the best shape of my life. I follow a variety of fitness Instagram accounts, and Kayla Itsines’ caught my eye. Kayla is a 23-year-old personal trainer from Australia, who developed a 12 Week Bikini Body Workout that guarantees results! I just finished week 5, and I have muscle in places I’ve never had muscle before, and I am finally starting to see some abdominal muscle. It’s truly amazing, and worth the $65!

4.I love this Breakfast at Tiffany’s print created by Adam Juresko. There is something about it that’s unequivocally appealing to me! Make sure to check out Adam’s Etsy shop for a lot more movie poster designs.

5. I am a mascara hoarder. I have 10+ mascaras, as I am always trying to find that one staple! Well ladies, this is it! I am sooooo in love with this Better Than Sex mascara. It gives the sense of false lashes with just one application. It isn’t clumpy, and doesn’t flake! Totally recommend!!

6. In my quest to get in serious shape, the Fitbit and MyFitnessPal are crucial components to my every day health and fitness routine. The Fitbit tracks all of my movement, and MyFitnessPal logs all of my food. I’ve synced them together, so my food intake appears in the Fitbit app, and my workout info appears in MyFitnessPal, which is super helpful! It’s also fun to find your friends on both apps to motivate and drive you to get some extra steps in and stay under your calorie intake!

7. Maybe it’s the fact that I have given up carbs like pasta, that makes me love this Pasta Facts poster, but as soon as I saw it, I wanted to share. And who knew October 25 is World Pasta Day?

8. If you’re into YouTube makeup tutorials, then I highly recommend you check out Nicole Guerriero for some makeup awesomeness. She’s really funny and informative. Definitely one of my faves on YouTube!

9. I have about eight or so eyeshadow palettes, and I try my best to switch them up during the week. However, it seems lately I’ve been consistently reaching for Stila’s In The Light Palette. The shadows have amazing color payoff, and stay on all day. Bubbly and Kitten alone make this palette worth purchasing!

10. …and my last makeup favorite is the Anastasia Covet Waterproof Eyeliner! I HATE when eyeliners run, and smudge in your tear duct area. This one does NOT! I wear it on both the top and bottom, and it stays on all day with no budge. And what makes this waterproof eyeliner awesome is that it doesn’t take 10 minutes to wash off! I workout after work, so I still have a full face of makeup on when I hit the gym, and the eyeliner looks just applied after I finish my hellish workout!

whew! That about sums it up for my obsessions! What are some of your faves this month?

Current Obsessions – April 2014

// Current Obsessions - April 2014

1. The Neighbourhood’s I Love You album has played and replayed on my iPod this month! Such an awesome album.

2. My favorite scent in the world is the scent of a man—there is something about the smell of cologne that I just love. So what’s not to love about a cologne scented candle? Thank you to Bath and Body Works for making one! If you’re like me, and love the cologne smell, check out their Mahogany Teakwood candle!

3. I love love love these wedding invites designed by Velcrosuit! The theme for the invites was ducks, since the place the couple is getting married has over one hundred of them living on the farm and they can be seen walking around together all over the estate. Make sure to check out all seven invite components!

4. This winter I’ve had horribly dry lips—which I usually never get…so I didn’t know how to battle them. I am already obsessed with Lush, so when I walked in to re-buy a face mask I saw their Popcorn Lip Scrub, and decided to try it out! It’s magic in a jar!!

5. If you have a few hours to spend perusing a blog, I suggest The Ruche Blog. It offers fashion, beauty, travel, DIY and so much more content to spend a lazy day exploring.

6. I have a really hard time buying bracelets because of my super small wrists, so when I saw my hair dresser have these awesome Alex and Ani bangles on, I instantly fell in love…and the best part is they adjust to fit any wrist size! #winning

7. As I’ve mentioned in several previous posts, I am kind of obsessed with Buzzfeed! My friends always joke that that’s where all of my cool facts and pop culture tid bits. The quizzes are also quite fab.

8. As soon as I came across these Disney posters (Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Incredibles), I knew I had to share. Tom Whalen has dozens of amazing illustrations on this site (with most available for sale). Definitely worth taking a peek!

9. I totally dig the idea of creating a DIY clock over the mantle, or in an office space. Can’t wait to try this out as soon as I get a bigger place. The best part for me is the idea of using different fonts that still uniformly go together to achieve this piece!

What have been some of your favorite things this month? Sound off!

Current Obsessions – March 2014

This past February The Chic Type Blog turned 2 (whoo hoo)…and with time comes change, new endeavors, and all of that other good stuff! So…i’ve decided to start a new post series. Every month…probably on the last Monday of the month, I will do a collection of some of my favorite things for that month. It won’t necessarily be typography related…but mostly my favorite life things. This will allow all of you to get to know me a little better, and maybe help you strike up some new interests. I hope you enjoy the series! Your thoughts and comments are always welcome :-)

// Chic Type Blog - Current Obsessions - March 2014

1. I love seeing creative’s office spaces. There is something so serene and inspiring about being in an awesome work space. My Scandinavian Home’s decor is so elegant and minimalistic that it just makes me innately happy.

2. I have five screens that need wallpapers (two at work and three at home), so I always like to mix things up—calendar on one, and then something awesome on the others. Every month, Lovingly, Kate creates a monthly wallpaper to spruce up your screen…and in my opinion they’re pretty kick ass!

3. I love Instagram (if you want to follow me…My user name is Svetsxpres), but sometimes I want to do some photo corrections before I import the photo into Instagram, and Afterlight is the PERFECT app. The possibilities are endless. Definitely worth getting and checking out!

4. I am a scarf fiend. However, I am so boring when it comes to the ways I wear them. It’s always one or two ways; however, this video uses four different kinds of scarves and shows you 16 different ways to wear them. Some are definitely more atypical than others, but the rest are totally fun and easy to do!

5. I’ve replaced television watching with binge watching beauty guru’s videos on YouTube. One of my favorite’s is Jaclyn Hill. She is awesome, and so knowledgeable! I’ve learned a TON of great techniques from her (and developed a bit of a shopping habit). She’s definitely worth checking out!

6. Pinterest is the IT place for me to find new recipes to try, and from that comes this Guacamole Bruschetta, which is amazing! So fun and yummy as an appetizer for a get-together.

7. Simply put theSkimm is the daily newsletter that gives you everything you need to start your day. They do the reading for you, and break it down with some fresh editorial content. They read, so that you skim! The email comes around 6:00a.m. (EST), so it’s perfect to skim through while you’re having your morning coffee.

8. This comes from another one of the beauty guru’s I follow, who also has a blog in which she shows off her home decor techniques. As soon as I saw this DIY Accent Corners Frame, I fell in love…definitely on my to do list for the spring/summer.

9. The Husband’s Secret was a great read! Although the entire book was fantastic, the epilogue was one of the best I’ve ever read. It’s one of those books that when you’re done, you sit down for a bit, and really process the book…and then the epilogue…and you get into some pretty deep thinking. Have you read the book—what were your thoughts?

10. On March 1, I went to the Ron Pope concert (my third one), and holy moly can that man sing! During the concert, my best friend leaned into me and whispered that “his singing makes my uterus explode”! I think that pretty much says it all. Some of my favorite songs are: You’re The Reason I Come HomeThe Right Way, Fireflies, and A Drop In The Ocean.

…and I finally got a Facebook page for the blog, so please feel free to stalk away! Happy end of March!
