If I had to pick a go-to social media platform, it would undoubtably be Instagram (you can follow me @Svetsxpres). In the past couple of years I’ve come across some amazing artists who’ve inspired me tremendously. One of those effortless artists is Tommy Perez.
He’s done some pretty incredible projects, but my favorite has to be the A to Zoë food-typography collaboration he did with his 2-year-old daughter Zoë. Through this project he is teaching her the alphabet by taking food and shaping it to form the letter it begins with. Pretty nifty, huh? Letter Y was completed in early August, but Tommy never made it to Z, which is why it has taken me so long to make this post! But I couldn’t wait any longer, so the # (for Hash-Brown) has taken Z’s place! Check out the entire project below, and make sure to follow more of his creations on Instagram (@t-rez).
I have to admit Buzzfeed is an addiction of mine. I usually peruse through it when I need a short mental break from work, and it’s often just a series of hilarious GIFs and funny 35 Facts That Will Make You Feel Old; however, once in a while, I find some amazing content that is undoubtably worth sharing. This project is definitely one of those times!
In this Food Maps series, Caitlin Levin and Henry Hargreaves (with typography by Sarit Melmed) took many iconic foods of countries and continents and turned them into physical maps. These maps show how food has traveled the globe, transforming and becoming a part of the cultural identity of each particular region. The maps were inspired by Caitlin and Henry’s passion for travel—exploring new places through the food you eat is often a portal to the cultural complexities of a nation. This project is a playful representation of their interpretation of food from around the world, demonstrating how food unites people and begins a conversation, as they hope these maps will. Check out all of their amazing creations below!
Although this is not typography related, it was just too good not to share! This past weekend, I came across Ida Skivenes on Instagram, and fell in love with all of her delectable food creations and designs. In June of 2012, Ida became inspired to play with some healthy ingredients in the creation of for her favorite meal—breakfast. Her first creation was a bear and fox toast that she copied from the Internet, and the rest is now history! Check out some of my favorite creations below, and follow Ida on Instagram to keep up with this awesome project. This fall she plans on releasing a book with all her wonderful food creations—yummy!
